There something truly wonderful about looking at the colour, the "rim" at the top which advises how "ready-to-drink" it is, watching it whilst you swirl it gently around the glass, seeing the "legs" slowly slip down the inside of the glass and, leaning in to breathe in the bouquet of scents.... fruits, dark chocolate, citrus, oak, wet hessian... aah, it's making my mouth water.
Sitting with friends that appreciate the nuances of region, age, maturity and value and chatting about related experiences. wine truly can, truly "make the heart rejoice!"
Let's not forget to mention the health benefits.
Antioxidants to chase down and eliminate the free radicals. Resveratrol to strengthen the heart vascular system and of course, let's not acknowledge the Alcohol... to "take the edge off" after a stressful day and just "chill-out".
For me, I like all fine examples of all wines but, I am particularly partial to a well-aged Primitivo from Southern Italy or, an even more well -ged Burgundy from France like, Gevrey Chambertin Domain de le Rominee Conti. The older the better!
Either of the above, with a good meal and good friends, followed by a lovely Sauterne from Chateau Rieussec or Château d'Yquem - OMG... Heaven in glass!
Finish off a great night with good wine-loving friends and have a Martel XO Cognac and some dark chocolate.
